The countdown to this year's Kingsbridge Fair Week is on!

July in Kingsbridge can only mean one thing – it’s time for Fair Week again!

The annual week of summer events surrounding the 15th century charter Fair is running from Saturday, 15 July, to Saturday, 22 July, and, as usual, all the old favourites will be there.

A spokesperson for Kingsbridge Fair Week said: "There will be a slightly different look to events on the Town Square this year as the Bandstand is not available, but don’t worry, there will be live music, displays, parades, competitions, and general celebrations for the whole week.

"The first weekend sees the crowning of the Fair Week royalty, live music and family fun on the Town Square with magic shows, the keenly contested boules competition and more music. During the week you can play bingo, enter your pet in the dog show, run in the road race or try your skills at darts or euchre.

"The glove hanging and the reading of the Fair charter take place mid-week, followed by the floral dance down Fore Street. The theme for the Lantern Parade is ‘Wild Isles’ so there should be plenty of ‘wild’ creations on show after dark on the Wednesday.

"On the estuary, there will be watery mayhem in the raft race and spectacular fireworks from Pyrovision, and on dry land the Teddy Bears’ picnic for the youngest visitors.

"Towards the end of the week, the fun continues, with more bands to listen to and the parade of costumes and walking techniques to watch in the three-legged race. One of the loudest events of the week also happens this weekend, the second round of the South West Town Criers Championships – no need for amplifiers here!

"Saturday’s carnival parade winds up the week with its procession around the town, followed by another evening of music on the Town Square."

Programmes will be on sale from mid-June at Tesco, Morrisons, McColls (Quay and Fore Street) and the local Co-Op, Ilbert Road.
