Local MP Anthony Mangnall has welcomed the news that the application for a banking hub in Dartmouth has been successful.

Following discussions with LINK, Mr Mangnall submitted a request for an ‘access to cash review’ for Dartmouth, and is "pleased" to learn the company has recommended that the town should be served by a shared banking hub.

The banking hub will provide basic banking services including counter services run for the major banks by the Post Office, as well as dedicated rooms where customers can meet community bankers from their own bank. This will be the second banking hub in South Devon.

In his application, Mr Mangnall highlighted Dartmouth’s "growing population and transport connectivity issues, alongside the lack of banking services and limited cash machines". The appliation also drew attention to the town having "an active community", and being a "popular tourist destination which is especially busy during the summer months". The town "has a thriving high street, with a high number of shops, cafes, restaurants and tourism businesses which rely on cash but have no option to cash up after hours".

Speaking after learning the news, Mr Mangnall said: “I am delighted that my application for Dartmouth to be home to a new banking hub has been approved. The facility will provide a very welcome service to residents and businesses in the town and the surrounding area, which currently has limited banking services.

"Having campaigned for South Devon’s first banking hub to be opened in Brixham and seen its ongoing success, I look forward to seeing the new facility breathe new life into Dartmouth’s high street, support residents and attract new businesses to the area.

"Local councillors, residents and businesses we all highly supportive of my proposal to bring a banking hub to Dartmouth, so this really is very welcome news.”

Dartmouth Banking Hub will now be set up by bank-owned infrastructure company Cash Access UK, once a suitable premises has been confirmed.
