Salcombe Field of Light artist exhibits a snapshot of his work in Kingsbridge

The artist behind the Salcombe Field of Light is showcasing their other works of art at a Kingsbridge art gallery. 

Bruce Munro is the brain behind the stunning Field of Light display that is currently glowing across Salcombe Harbour and he is exhibiting a range of his art work in the Velarde Gallery in Kingsbridge. 

The exhibition is a snapshot of his work over the last 25 years.

His artworks range from chandelier-style light pieces, panoramic photos reworked into photo mosaics, glass and light illuminations and stunning photos taken by his wife Serena. 

Many of the pieces move and change, different colours and all of them showcasing Bruce's favourite thing to capture - light. 

Bruce said he wants to “make art that bring people together and making them aware of lovely things”.

Bruce grew up between Salcombe and Essex, giving him a strong local connection, and many of his pieces mirror the sea, Salcombe and the stunning coastal views we are lucky to have around the South Hams. Read more about it here. 

Alongside the Field of Light in aid of the RNLI, one of Bruce’s latest books, with exclusive photos taken by Serena is being sold in aid of the charity that has been Saving Lives at Sea for the last 200 years.

Another emotional creation, a photo tour around Starehole Bay, was created to honour his friend Jenny Moore, who lost her life to breast cancer. The walk along the coast was one of their favourites and he created it so she could still experience the area when she was ill. Now he is selling the original in aid of Ricky Grant Day Unit and the Turner Ward at Torbay Hospital, who looked after Jenny in her final days. 

The exhibition opens this weekend, and if you wait until later in the day, Bruce and his team have set up firefly light pieces in the gallery's sculpture garden, which, while they look beautiful in the day light, will look even better as it gets darker. Luckily, the clocks go back on Sunday, making the evenings come quicker. 

So much of Bruce's work is real and tangible, so to see them static is a different experience, but in real life you can see the movement and the changes in light and it gives the whole exhibition a different feeling.

Bruce has brought some of his team, Red, Jim, George and James, to help set up the exhibition in Kingsbridge, which has taken days of expertise. Bruce credits his whole team of more than 20 people, led by Jane, to help make his installations and exhibitions a success. 

The exhibition will be on at Velarde until the end of December, while the Field of Light will be in Salcombe until the beginning of January, so don’t miss it.
