Police were called to Malborough today, Friday, 8 May, following reports of a woman making "references to being in possession of a sword".

Police were called at 12.45pm after members of the public called to report a woman threatening people with a sword.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called at 12.45pm on May 8 to Malborough, following a report of a woman making reference to being in possession of a sword.

“Officers attended the area and carried out searches. No weapons were reported to have been seen, and nothing was located during searches.

“A 39-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of using threatening words or behaviour to cause alarm or distress. She remains in police custody.”

There have been reports that the local Malborough and South Huish Primary School was put into lockdown due to the proximity to the incident, but these are unconfirmed.

Parent, Sophie Pedrick, explained that the staff at Malborough Primary kept all the kids secure but unaware of the situation.

She said: "The school did a fantastic job with our children. The staff were fantastic and kept them all safe and unaware of what was happening around them.

"It was an incredibly scary time for everyone involved."
