Indoor Self Storage has created a “hotel for people’s goods” and has expanded their site in Dartmouth.

While storage units often conjure up visions of dark and damp spaces, Indoor Self Storage is an open, bright, clean and dry space.

Indoor Self Storage considers themselves a hotel for people’s goods, with corridors that have “rooms” coming off from either side.

With their bright yellow colour theme, the whole place has a very friendly and welcoming vibe.

Customers hold the padlocks to their rooms, there is a loading bay with trolleys available to transport goods and the wide corridors and brightly lit spaces make the whole site feel very safe.

The rooms come in a variety of sizes depending on your needs, with lockers available for smaller items, and the smallest room being 15-square-foot through to 300-square-foot rooms that can hold the contents of a five-bedroom house.

The sites are purpose-fitted warehouses with a pin code access, and an automatic locking gate so it is fully secure overnight. There is also extensive CCTV, fire and smoke alarms, so you know your stuff is safe. Indoor Self Storage is the best you can buy.

As a women-run business, the feeling of safety with bright LED lighting was a main priority and the team really prioritise helping their customers and being a people-focussed company.

The Indoor Self Storage team

Indoor Self Storage started in Dartmouth a decade ago at a small site at the Collingwood Road Industrial Estate and every time they built more storage space, people came to fill it, so the business has grown from there.

They now also have a location in Totnes and have expanded there too with more rooms and extra loading bays to keep up with demand. A new extension to accommodate the popular smaller room sizes is coming to Totnes in the first half of the new year.

The rooms are rented on a four-week rolling contract and many customers have been with the team since day one. Sometimes moving from smaller to larger units and back again, but always appreciating the usefulness of having extra storage when they need it.

Jo Moon, Director of Indoor Self Storage

Jo Moon, Director, said: “We have had customers come to us for a house move, then as they have sorted through some of their furniture they have taken a smaller room, we can be really flexible.

“Our main business is people moving house or their house move has fallen through or they’re renovating and it's much easier when they don’t have as much stuff to work around.

“Everyone needs extra storage! People use it for bikes, seasonal clothes, kayaks, surfboards, you name it! We had one customer use her room to keep her kids toys in and then would rotate them every week so the kids didn’t get bored and her house wasn’t filled with toys they didn’t play with any more!”

The only things that Indoor Self Storage cannot hold is anything flammable, including engines, but everything else is good to go! They even have a little shop where you can buy tape or bubble wrap!

One of the driving forces behind Indoor Self Storage is their team’s understanding that a lot of the time, people need storage due to emotional situations. Just moving house can be stressful and emotional, but often people are dealing with divorce or recent bereavements, or they have to move house quickly. They are committed to making the process as smooth as possible.

The site in Totnes is also conveniently located opposite the ReFurnish site, so there is always an easy place to give your unwanted furniture to when you need to.

You can book space online through the website or you can call 01803 835777. You can also visit the site and see the rooms and talk to the team directly.

Their Dartmouth site is 1 Collingwood Road, TQ6 9JY. Reception hours Monday-Friday: 9am-5pm. Their Totnes site is Address Dart Mills, Babbage Road, TQ9 5JA. Reception hours Monday to Friday: 9am-5pm, Saturday: 9am-4pm. Access at both sites is available Monday-Sunday: 7am-8pm
