Two businesses join forces to take centre stage at RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Kingsbridge-based craft show A Little Bit Crafty and Ford-based plant nursery Hare Spring Cottage Plants have joined together to create something amazing at RHS Chelsea Flower Show. 

A much-loved independent craft shop in the South Hams is set to showcase its creativity on one of the world’s most prestigious stages, as A Little Bit Crafty takes part in the renowned RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Chelsea Flower Show is held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London from 19-23 May.

Based in the heart of Kingsbridge on Bridge Street, A Little Bit Crafty has built a loyal following since opening in 2022. Owned by Sue Brooks, the family-run shop offers a vibrant range of yarns, knitting and crochet supplies, haberdashery, handmade gifts and creative workshops for crafters of all levels.

This spring, Sue’s craftsmanship will be featured as part of a special installation at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where she has been commissioned to create a fully knitted 'English afternoon tea' display.

"I’ve been knitting since my Gran taught me when I was seven, and I’ve always loved anything creative,” said Sue Brooks, owner of A Little Bit Crafty. "It was such an honour to be asked to knit an English afternoon tea - and I do love a challenge! 

"The centrepiece is a chocolate cake, alongside a cake stand filled with smaller treats like cupcakes, eclairs and even a slice of Battenberg. It all looks good enough to eat! To complete the scene, I’ve also made limited-edition cushion covers and a blanket.

"I can’t attend Chelsea this year, but I’ll definitely be watching closely - it would be wonderful to spot my work on TV and see a little bit of Kingsbridge in London."

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is internationally recognised for celebrating excellence in horticulture, design and craftsmanship, attracting visitors and viewers from across the globe.

Sue’s contribution highlights the growing appreciation for textile art within garden and lifestyle installations, bringing a handmade touch to this iconic event. Her products can be seen in the Camassia Educational Display supporting Hare Spring Cottage Plants in the Great Pavilion.

For Kingsbridge and the wider South Hams community, Sue’s involvement represents a proud moment - showcasing local talent on a national stage and reinforcing the region’s reputation for creativity and independent enterprise.
