Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue warns about chimney safety after recent fires

Kingsbridge Fire Station has reminded people to make sure they sweep their chimneys before lighting their fires.

Kingsbridge Fire Station have posted on their social media, asking people to "remember to have the chimney swept before you light the fire" as there have already been "a number of chimney fires in the area".

They said: "It’s that time of year people are starting to think about using the open fire in their houses even more so with the cost of energy rising .

"Also think about a carbon monoxide detector in the room where the fire is as it will help to detect if the fumes are all being sent up the chimney.

"Stay Warm but Safe this winter."
