Flooding, thunder and lightning hit the South Hams over the weekend

Storm Éowyn has caused flooding and disruption across the South Hams, with a yellow warning in place until 10am tomorrow morning. 

Flooding occurred across the South Hams over the weekend, Saturday, 25 and Sunday, 26 January, with fire stations experiencing a "high number of calls following the heavy rain". 

Fire stations put out a message that water levels are likely to keep rising, with roads becoming flooded. Warning: "Please do not drive through floodwater, especially where warning signs have been put in place. Just 30cm of flowing water can make a vehicle stuck or even sweep it away."

Pennywell Farm had to close their doors on Sunday due to localised flash flooding that an employee caught on video: 

Plymouth Road in Totnes was closed due to flooding on Sunday, 26 January, which was cleared at 5am this morning.

The Met Office has yellow weather warnings in place until tomorrow morning, 27 January, with warnings of "heavy, blustery showers and possible thunderstorms, will lead to some flooding continuing to affect roads".

The website states:

• Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible
• Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
• Some interruption to power supplies and other services may occur
• Bus and train services may be affected by longer journey times
  
  
• The strong winds will drive in a succession of showers, some of them heavy, through Monday and Monday night, before slowly easing during Tuesday morning. With the ground so wet, these are likely to produce or sustain some flooding impacts, primarily affecting road travel. Additional hazards could include further lightning strikes, and hail making road conditions dangerous.
