Local author publishes his first book

A local author has published his first book, based in the South Hams and it is set to inspire wonder in all who read it. 

Paul Roberts, who described himself as a "hobby writer" has published his first childrens' novel The Doors to Yesterday, based in the South Hams, mainly a fictional reclamation yard in Loddiswell.

Paul's main character Pip finds out that there is more to their grandfather, William Luscombe, than meets the eye and a fantastic adventure of time travel, family, friendship, love and loss unfolds in the pages. 

There are places that you will recognise throughout the book and it gives you a fantastic sense of history and place. It will make you laugh and cry.

Paul retired from his previous life as a dubbing mixer for TV, working on major dramas, comedy shows, animations and documentaries - he even picked up a BAFTA and Royal Television Society awards on the way - and now he is a published author. 

Paul, who is dyslexic and therefore has had to work harder to get this novel finished, finally bit the bullet and made his story a reality during lockdown, and the story since then has delighted his friends and family, especially two of his grandchildren Dougie and Maisey, and now is set to delight the children of the wider South Hams as well. 

Aimed at children between the ages of 9-11, but well worth a read as an adult too, The Doors to Yesterday is available in The Harbour Bookshop in Kingsbridge, Salter's Bookshelf in Salcombe, The Ivybridge Bookshop and The East Gate Bookshop in Totnes - just in time for Christmas!
