Plymstock Aldi passes next milestone

The developer behind the major Saltram Meadow site in Plymstock has exchanged contracts with a national supermarket on land intended to host its newest branch.

Persimmon Homes Cornwall and West Devon’s agreement with Aldi "paves the way for the delivery of the promised amenities, commercial opportunities, and local jobs created because planning permission was given to the overall project".

The planning application for the construction of the supermarket and car park is currently undergoing assessment with Plymouth City Council. Should it receive approval, work on site will commence soon afterwards.

A spokesperson for Persimmon said: "The store would be located off Encombe Street within Saltram Meadow, next to the new Main Square, and represents an important opportunity to improve choice for existing and new residents in Plymstock.

"Residents were consulted on the plans back in February. The proposal includes an investment of £8m, creating around 40 new local jobs, a 112-space car park with electric vehicle charging points, and attractive landscaping with biodiversity enhancements – all of which will create jobs during its construction phase too.

"Persimmon currently has one, two, and three-bed homes for sale at Saltram Meadow from £162,995. The accredited five-star developer’s sister company, Charles Church, also has an outlet at the development, The Avenue, with three, four, and five-bed homes on the market from £320,000."
