Search launched for teenagers missing from Challaborough

Salcombe RNLI, Bigbury Coastguard and Devon and Cornwall Police were searching for two teenagers into the early hours last night.

Emergency services were called after two 16-year-olds missed their curfew back to Challaborough Caravan Park last night, Monday, 10 April.

The two youngsters left at around 3pm and missed their curfew at 9pm, raising concern with their parents and family.

Police, Salcombe RNLI and Coastguard Search and Rescue teams from Bigbury, Kingsbridge and Yealm, began searches in the Bigbury and Burgh Island areas and the police helicopter was also on scene. There were concerns they had entered the water and got into difficulty.

In what we can imagine was great relief (and a lot of trouble), they returned of their own accord around 2.30am.

If you find yourself in an emergency situation or spot someone else in trouble near the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

I was wanting to say that I am one of the 16 year olds in this report me and my cousin were both in this and we were lucky to get out with my big thinking and yes it did take us 11 and a half hours but that was because of the tied but we’re both fine now it was a traumatic experience even almost a year on
