South Hams Area Wellbeing (SHAW) in partnership with Active Devon, have teamed up with three local personal trainers to deliver a ten-week programme of free online exercise classes for adults.

The classes will focus on improving flexibility, fitness, balance and functional strength. They will be very broad in order to be as inclusive as possible but will include a warm up and cool down, cardio fitness, strength and flexibility.

Classes are open to, but not limited to, adults (18+) living in Kingsbridge and the surrounding villages who are in receipt of benefits, not on benefits but limited disposable income, furloughed, redundant, isolated, experiencing loneliness, anxiety and isolation, or wanting to establish, or re-establish, an exercise routine.

Classes will run on Tuesdays at 9.30am, Thursdays at 2pm and Sundays at 9am. The classes will include around 10 participants and be held on Zoom for one hour.

Helen Hamilton, SHAW Community Builder, explained: "The process will be that an individual will choose which class best suits them with regard to day and time and make contact with me. I will then pass their name and number onto the relevant personal trainer (PT). The PT will then call them to fill in a questionnaire to ensure everyone is aware of any issues, general health concerns or suitability to attend the class.

"We’ve given the PTs the scope to tailor their classes to those attending and preferences that they may show during the course of the 10 weeks. Our main aim at this point is to engage with as many individuals as we can in order to offer these classes and get people moving!"

The PTs working with SHAW are Gill Whitmore, Devi Majumdar and Lara Christopher.
