Andrew at AF Agricultural Engineers is the guy the experts call for advice

When you’re the guy experts call for advice, you know you really know your stuff.

Andrew Frampton, owner of AF Agricultural Engineers, is one such guy.

With more than four decades of experience with farm machinery and a specialisation in Massey Ferguson, Andrew has literally rewritten manuals and single-handedly noticed a fault that caused a nationwide product recall.

AF Agricultural Engineering

An independent Massey Ferguson supplier and general agricultural engineer, AF Agricultural can help fix almost anything that is used on a farm, from tractors, tankers, balers, harvesters, fertiliser spinners, combines and drills.

Andrew has an affinity with the machinery he works with and can often get machinery running where most other people have given up. On one occasion he went onto a farm to have a look at a tractor and while he was there he noticed a central steer telehandler that was out of action - and had been for five years. Once he had finished his tractor job he went to have a look at it and had it running within an hour.

Around 1995, Andrew was also responsible for spotting a fault in the way Massey Ferguson 300 series tractors had been assembled in the factory, where bolts were put in the wrong way round and then the harness being run over the top of them, leading to burnt harnesses.

This fault was found to be across the 300 series and Massey Ferguson had to issue a full recall and had to fix the fault and often replace the clutches in hundreds, if not thousands, of tractors.

When he was previously working for CR Willcocks, Andrew was sent to South Africa to find out why there was a spate of Ford Tractors breaking down. He discovered something missing in the manual’s instructions for changing the oil, which led to sumps never being refilled - cue a manual re-write.

People ring Andrew up from all over the UK and further afield, for advice when a mechanical problem stumps them. He has just received a text message from one such colleague in Ireland after suggesting a fix for their problem, saying “how can I repay you, thanks a million for that Andrew”.

Tractors are not just big, heavy machines anymore, they are complex pieces of kit with even more complex computers on board, with kit that can calculate spacing and widths to maximise the production of each crop in each field and waste as little as possible.

With all this change in technology, AF Agricultural Engineering has kept bang up to date and is still at the cutting edge. The connection with Massey Ferguson means that he can supply parts across the product line and he can also provide you with ex demo machines and older models, as well as being an expert between his customers and dealers when they’re looking for something new.

Andrew has been helping farmers across the South Hams and beyond in their hour of need for his whole career and if there is a machine that needs fixing, AF Agricultural Engineers is the company to call.
