A friendly Battle of the Fairs in East Prawle has raised more than £13,000 for local good causes.
East Prawle has had a fair for as long as most people can remember, but this year was a little bit different.
With space becoming more limited, Prawle Fair was moved to the cricket pitch, opening up space for the Prawle Festival to germinate. You can read about how it all happened here: www.southhams.com/battleofthefairsineastprawle
Well now the events have happened and everyone has done their adding up and between the two events they have raised an epic £13,292.70 to be split between local charities and good causes.
Have a look at this video posted by The Pigs Nose:
Kieran Guilfoyle, The Pigs Nose said: "It was a great year! The festival raised a further £3286.00 which will be given out to the charities in community.
So between the two events that’s £13,292.70 to local community compared to last year, which was a figure of £7,635.17 from Prawle Fair operating on its own.
"Plus the pub the shop and all the traders who attended had a good day with healthy sales so all in all a winner all round. Bring on next year!"
Kieran explained that they are considering the Coleridge Bus and Devon Air Ambulance as the two charities that will benefit from Prawle Festival's piece of the pie.
On the other side the village, the Prawle Fair team posted on their social media to say: "What a fantastic fair it was!
"Thank you to everyone who helped, donated and visited our wonderful village fair! We are pleased to announce we have had the most successful Prawle Fair to date and raised a whopping £10,006.68 for the local community.
"Tonight at the final meeting of the year we discussed where the money should go.
It was decided that monies raised will go to:
- The Chivelstone Parish Community Hall
- The Coleridge Bus
- Chivelstone Parish Church
- East Prawle Cricket Club
- NCI Prawle Point
- Start Circle of Friends
"With an extra donation to the Rotary Club and a massive thank you for all of their help! It truly was a brilliant day!"
We hope to see both Prawle Fair and Prawle Festival will continue for many years to come.
