East Allington Primary School officially opens new pond during 'Enterprise Day'

East Allington Primary School has officially opened their new pond area, which was possible due to local generosity. 

East Allington Primary School has officially opened their new pond in the school grounds, achieved through the generosity of the local community.

Funding for the pond came from the inclusion of the pond project to the Kingsbridge Tesco blue coin donations in, as well as donations from South Devon Nature Trust, Mr and Mrs Davenport, Devon Pond Plants, South Hams District Councillor Laurel Lawford, Devon County Councillor Julian Brazil. 

East Allington PTFA were the driving force behind the project, especially Rachel Clayson and former chair Kate Treleavan. 

Head teacher Tom Pether officially opened the pond on Friday, 28 June, during Enterprise Day, an event where pupils from Year 5 and 6 to design, decorate, and run stalls to raise money for the school and the PTFA.

The pupil's Spring Photography competition was also judged by photographer Martyn Norsworthy. 

Tom thanked the community for their support, especially Tim from South Devon Nature Trust, who brought the pond to life, Mr and Mrs Davenport, who allowed Tim to donate his time, Devon Pond Plants who donated greenery for the pond, and SHDC's Cllr Laurel Lawford who donated £200 from her locality budget, and DCC's Cllr Julian Brazil who donated £500 from his locality budget. 

He thanked the PTFA for all their work to support the school and all the parents who support them, in both big ways and small. 

The pond is now available for the children to enjoy, enhancing their outdoor space at East Allington Primary School.
