Today, June 16th sees the restart of Coast to Coast Water Safety's Junior Water Safety Programme. This project is fundraised for to allow local school children in years 5 and 6 FREE access to water safety skills and knowledge.

This project is run in partnership with Dartmouth Swimming club and aims to provide children with confidence in the water as well as equip them with some skills and knowledge to help keep them and their friends safe when in and around water.

Fundraising and support from local businesses and organisations has allowed this project to be rolled out to local kids free of charge, making access to swimming and water safety free to those who live in and enjoy our fantastic coastline.

The programme is broken down into 2 parts – firstly at the Dartmouth Leisure Centre pool where the children’s water abilities are assessed to enable us to build on their water confidence all through fun practical games and exercises.

The second part is down at Blackpool Sands Beach. Here the children are given tips on how to stay safe near water, understanding local hazards and related risks, staying afloat and what to do if they are in trouble, how to raise help and what they can do to help others whilst keeping themselves safe.
