Kingsbridge Town Council has a vacancy - could you represent your town? 

There is a vacancy for the office of town councillor for the North ward in Kingsbridge. 

The vacancy was announced by the town council today, with Town Clerk Martin Johnson saying: "Unless ten or more electors of the Kingsbridge North Ward, on or before the 11th August 2021, submit a request in writing for an election to be held, the Town Council will take steps to fill the vacancy by co-option."

If you would like to be a town councillor, you need to be: 

  • Over 18 years of age
  • A British or Commonwealth citizen
  • A Kingsbridge elector, or have worked in the area for the preceding 12 months, or have occupied land or other premises as owner or tenant, or lived in the town or within three miles of Kingsbridge during the same period.

No formal qualifications are required and the town council is made up of people from all walks of life with various personal and professional backgrounds. Previously, the town clerk has said: "What you do need however, is a passion for Kingsbridge and a commitment to attend various meetings to make your voice heard. Being a town councillor is a big responsibility but incredibly rewarding."

Requests for an election must be sent to the Returning Officer, South Hams District Council, Follaton House, Plymouth Road, Totnes TQ9 5NE.
