A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting another man with a screwdriver.

Police were called to Morrisons car park in Kingsbridge just after 9pm on Friday, June 3, after an "altercation between two men".

A spokesperson for the Devon and Cornwall Police said the incident began when "one man was seen acting in an aggressive manner to the other".

They continued: "The suspect male returned to his car and then made threats while in possession of a screwdriver. A 30-year-old man who went to assist sustained two small cuts to his body after being assaulted with the screwdriver."

A man in his 60s from the Kingsbridge area was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink, affray, possession of an offensive weapon and common assault.

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
