Two local fire crews were among nine called to a "out-of-hand" controlled moor burn
Two local fire crews were among nine called to a controlled moorland fire that was getting “out of hand” on Friday.
Multiple calls were made to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue on Friday, 25 March, just after 2pm, of a controlled burn that was “getting out of hand and spreading”.
A crew from Ashburton attended, and found a 400m fire front that was spreading, leading to other crews and all-terrain vehicles were also being sent along with a “command support unit”.
Crews from Ashburton, Totnes, Torquay, Bovey Tracey, Chagford, Moretonhampstead, Newton Abbot, Princetown and Tavistock attended throughout the day, using “4x4 vehicles, ATV's, beaters, hose reel jets and 45mm attack jets”.
A drone was also used to make aerial assessments.
The fire was fully extinguished by 9.30pm after approximately four hectares were involved in the fire.
