In the South Hams we’re fortunate to have many fine eateries with fabulous views of the coast. But all too often there’s a compromise: limited parking and, especially during the summer months, lots of crowds to contend with. But, who says you can’t have it all?

Travel inland along the road out of Kingsbridge towards Loddiswell and you’ll see a turning on the right for Aune Valley. This long-established farm shop, delicatessen and butchery business has a delightful vintage-style café which takes advantage of wonderful panoramic views over the Avon valley … and there’s plenty of parking, too ...

The Valley View Café’s long glass frontage means that practically every table has a view. What’s more, when the weather turns warmer, you can enjoy a leisurely lunch or afternoon tea in the sunshine out on the terrace.

It’s also a view worth getting up for if you time it right.

Fine early spring and autumn mornings often bring low-lying mists over the river, so head up to the café for a hearty home-cooked breakfast and you might get lucky and be able to enjoy this natural phenomenon. The ‘mountainous views and breakfasts’ were certainly a great start to the day for one happy customer reporting on TripAdvisor recently, so why not find out for yourself?

SouthHams.com member, Aune Valley Meat, and the Valley View Café, are open Monday to Saturday inclusive until 5pm. For more information, call them on 01548 559126.
