Peter Weller is the owner of Kingsbridge Express Couriers, a courier service that offers a personalised approach and the kind of care that you know you can really trust with your valuables. Here he tells us a little more about the background to the business and how he found his way from Kentish Town to Kingsbridge…

Tell me about the background to Kingsbridge Express Couriers?

I am originally from London, and was a courier up there several years ago. I started my business in Kingsbridge five years ago, but for a long time much of my work came through big companies like Royal Mail, as a subcontractor so I didn’t promote myself very much. It got to a stage where I didn't want to be the middle man and I wanted to do more as an individual, so now I am more proactive in talking about who I am and how I can help!

What services do you offer?

It’s a same day courier service in a dedicated vehicle. It’s a quality-based business, and although it’s just me doing the day-to-day, I do have access to a network of other trusted drivers when I need an extra set of wheels. Most of our work is commercial, time sensitive and we're often carrying confidential materials. I don’t move furniture though, and sometimes there’s confusion between the role of a removal driver and a same day courier. We do work with local and national businesses as well as individuals to ensure their goods get safely to their destination. For example, we've returned a holidaymaker's laptop to London, but we mostly our work is on a more commercial level.

Have you always been based in the South Hams?

I am originally from Kentish Town, but I came to the South Hams for my, now, wife. We met through a mutual friend, and while she was originally from London she had moved to Hope Cove as a child and obviously wanted to stay in Devon - why wouldn’t you?

What did you do before Kingsbridge Express Couriers?

I worked for a big company based on Finchley Road in London.  I don’t think they’re trading any more, but my work there included driving into central London all the time so I know that like the back of my hand. The work wasn’t as bespoke as it is now now, but it was still a small company and I liked that approach - it was always a mindset and a level of quality control that I wanted to replicate.

Is there anything people are surprised about in your work?

A lot of people aren't aware of Kingsbridge Express Couriers because I have done so much subcontracting work. However, in the last couple of years I have been more active on social media, getting the word out that I am here for local people and businesses as much as possible.

What are you looking forward to this year?

It’s just about growing my reputation in the local area. I think people need a reliable service, lots of people are worried about guaranteeing that items get from A to B in one piece and it’s that quality of service that’s important and that I want to highlight to people.
