A family business where community life is central to who they are, Natasha and Alan, the duo behind 24/7 Taxis in Kingsbridge work hard to run a sustainable business and give back wherever they can. Here, Natasha explains who they are, what they do and what their plans are for the year ahead…

Tell us about the background to your business?

We opened 24/7 Taxis in September 2018 after an extremely successful opening of Fresh Fades LTD Barber shop in Fore Street, which is also in Kingsbridge. Our knowledge of the Kingsbridge area grew, driving our ambition to expand and venture further afield, and it has continued to grow successfully to this day.

What services do you offer?

We offer a range of services across the South Hams area, including council contracts, private contracts, business runs and airport coverage. No job is ever too big or too small for our team, who cater to all needs. We offer assistance to hen and stag dos and weddings, not forgetting private hire for special occasions, with great offers on return journeys and lots of discount options. Our cars which are extremely well maintained and can take from one to eight people with both male and female drivers available for any occasion.

Have you always been based in the South Hams?

Our family moved to the South Hams from Bristol in 2015. We had always had a love of the local area and having decided to move, we have never looked back. We thoroughly enjoy being part of the local community and being able to "give back" in any way possible. We feel extremely grateful that the opportunity arose and take pleasure in being able to provide people with our services.

What did you do before?

Previously I worked as a hairdresser and I also have a background in care, hence my drive and passion to start my own business in Kingsbridge. Alan (my partner) has a background in graphic design and has opened his own European food supermarket in the heart of Plymouth. There has been huge support from the local community, which fuelled the passion to form 24/7 Taxis Kingsbridge and Salcombe LTD.

Is there anything people are surprised about?

People often ask how we are able to run three businesses with four children under the age of 12 at home. We are extremely fortunate to have a network of amazing people around us in Kingsbridge, which is why we work with the community and volunteers as much as possible to give back wherever we can. Our children are happy to call Kingsbridge home, and so are we.

What are you looking forward to this year?

This year 24/7 Taxis are proud to be able to provide a fast and responsive service with taxis offered 24-hours a day. Previously we have not always had the advantage of being able to run the service at it's full potential, but we have worked hard to fix teething issues and we are excited for the year ahead with a view to expand further and create more job opportunities for our locals. Obviously, the situation with COVID-19 is having a big impact on everyone. So, we are doing free prescription runs to all the customers that call with their details. We pick up the prescription and deliver to their address for free in order to help people stay indoors until the coronavirus threat subsides. We just want to try to give something back to the community that’s been so welcoming to us.
