Fire crews battle fire started by "battery charger"
Three fire crews battled a fire in a conservatory caused by a battery charger.
Crews from Ivybridge, Ashburton and Buckfastleigh Fire Stations were called to a fire in a domestic conservatory, which was spreading to the kitchen area, in South Brent just before 7pm on Saturday.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Early investigations suggest that the fire was started by a battery charger. As a service, we attend many electrical fires each week."
They then shared advice to keep you and your family safe while using electrical items:
- Only buy an appliance if it has a British or European safety mark on it
- Unplug appliances at night or when you’re not using them
- Charge appliances like laptops and phones on a hard surface like a table
- Only charge them when you are awake and in the house
- Don’t put items on top of electrical equipment, cables or lamps
