A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman was attacked in Totnes.

Officers said they received reports of a serious sexual assault in Totnes at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

Police said that the incident took place on the High Street near the junction with Castle Street.

The force said a man in his 30s from Totnes was arrested on suspicion of rape. He remains in police custody.

The woman is being supported by specially trained officers.

Anyone who was in the area at the time or has information to assist the investigation was asked to contact police.
