Thurlestone celebrates 130 years of hotel history this year, and are celebrating by offering stays at £130 per person, per night, including including anniversary champagne, award-winning dinner and Devon cream tea.

The Thurlestone Hotel in Devon’s South Hams is celebrating 130 years of ownership by the Grose family, whose Victorian founder with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Margaret Amelia Grose, opened her farmhouse up to visitors in 1896, hoping to capitalise on the arrival of visitors attracted by the newly opened Thurlestone Golf Club.

The hotel is now recognised as having the longest-running family hotel ownership in England, with the fifth generation, Matthew Grose currently in charge and very much involved.

It is an impressive history that has witnessed no less than seven monarchs; a world war that saw it commandeered by the Royal Marines; the roaring twenties and glamorous thirties, when it developed into the luxury hotel it is today; further development in the 1990s to extend into 19 acres of landscaped, sub-tropical gardens, a nine-hole golf course, two all-weather tennis courts, and a croquet lawn.

This year, the hotel has welcomed the addition of four superb self-catering apartments, set within the grounds looking out to sea and just a stroll from the South West Coast Path. The Thurlestone Retreats offer free access to all of the hotel’s facilities, including its award-winning restaurant, spa, indoor and outdoor pools and tennis courts.

This offer represents a saving of over £183 per person on the usual price and includes all spa and leisure facilities, with additional savings of 20 per cent on all treatments at the Voyage Spa.
