A spokesperson for the DCRT said: "On arrival, the casualty was assessed and the knee strapped and immobilised. The casualty was secured on a stretcher for the long journey to the car park at Gara Rock Hotel.

"The team members were frequently rotated carrying the stretcher during the long climb back up the hill. It was very hot in the sun and this was as much a factor as was the gradient and it took some time to get the casualty to the top.

"At the car park the casualty’s companions took the casualty to hospital.

"Many thanks to Gara Rock Hotel for the copious ice cold water for the teams and casualty at the top of the hill, it was very much appreciated."
