Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. 

Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas has been cancelled this morning, Thursday, 5 December, due to bad weather forecast over the weekend. 

The Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas team posted the update on social media, saying: "It is with deep regret that we announce the cancellation of Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas 2024 due to the forecast adverse weather conditions.

"After thorough discussions with our safety officer and partners, we have determined that proceeding with the event would compromise the safety of everyone involved.

"We did not make this decision lightly. The well-being of our attendees, stallholders, and volunteers is our highest priority, and the outdoor nature of the event leaves us with no viable alternative.

"Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule the event this year. We understand how much this cherished tradition means to all of us, and we sincerely apologise for any disappointment this may cause. Rest assured, we will begin planning for Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas 2025 in the New Year.

"This cancellation includes the stalls on Fore Street, The Ice Rink and Father Christmas in Activities 115.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Please stay safe, and we wish you a warm and happy festive season.

"We will be in touch with all stallholders, suppliers and sponsors before the end of the day."

The Met Office has issues an Amber Weather Warning for wind for Saturday, 7 December, as well as a Yellow Weather Warning for the Friday and the Sunday, 6 and 8 of December. 

The Met Office website states: Potentially damaging winds associated with Storm Darragh. 

What should I expect?

• There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
• Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
• Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
• Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life
• Some roads and bridges likely to close, with falling trees an additional hazard
• Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties
