Your driveway is often the first thing anyone sees when they arrive at your property and first impressions count! Finding the right company to lay your driveway can be a daunting task so we had a chat with one of the most well known driveway companies in the South Hams to make the job that little bit easier...

Tell us a little about the history of South Devon Driveways

We’re a trusted local family run business and have been serving the South Hams for over 40 years. We have lots of experience in all types of driveways. There’s not much you can throw at us that we won’t be able to handle with that much experience!

What services do you offer?

We do a lot of Tarmac driveways. Tarmacadam is a very popular cost-effective solution when it comes to both road surfaces and driveways. We can do it in either black or red to suit your requirements. Our tarmac driveway team have years of experience and will leave your driveway with a smooth and permeable finish. It’ll look great but more importantly it will be durable and last for years and years.

We also do a lot of block paving driveways, patios and pathways. It offers a very stylish finish your home. They are cost-effective and durable but also come in many colours and can be laid in a variety of patterns so can allow you to put your own stamp on the property. Block paving can also mean repairs are easier in years to come as you can replace a single block instead of the whole driveway.

Surface dressing is another service that we offer. It’s a cost-effective method people use to maintain roads and other large surfaces such as car parks and caravan parks. If the surface is starting to crack and break down we apply a layer of K170 hot liquid tar which is then sprayed with a substance to seal the surface. After this, chippings are applied directly to the hot material and machine rolled to finish the process. Not only does this add strength, it prevents the ingress of water and provides a fresh, hard-wearing and skid resistant surface. We can complete any surface dressing job however big or small, the chippings can be ordered in a wide range of colours.

What’s your favourite thing about the job?

I love seeing a job through from start to finish and seeing the difference it can make to the look and feel of a property. When you look at some of the before and after photographs that we’ve got it’s amazing what a difference a professionally laid driveway can really make to a property. I love knowing that the groundwork has been done properly and that my customers will have a durable driveway for years to come. A happy customer is a customer that will tell their friends!
