Situated in the heart of Chillington, on the road between Kingsbridge and Torcross, this friendly village pub boasts a warm and welcoming atmosphere and is enjoyed by drinkers, diners, locals and visitors alike. Enjoy top quality, ultra-locally sourced, seasonal food at affordable prices and an impressive range of locally produced drinks.

The team at the Bear and Blacksmith passionately believe in the importance of supporting local producers and sourcing only the best local ingredients for their customers.
With their own farm just 3 miles from the pub and a vegetable patch which backs onto the beer garden, the pub grows many of the vegetables and salads that appear on the menu as well as rearing their own sheep, pigs and poultry. Beef is reared predominantly on a farm just down the road in the same village & also on surrounding farms within a 10 mile radius.

Fresh fish and shellfish also feature strongly on the menu and arrives from local dayboats operating out of Salcombe, Dartmouth and Start Bay supplied by Rex Down & Britannia Shellfish
Lunch and dinner menus feature a range of modern British pub classics while the Specials menu - which changes daily reflecting what is brought to the kitchen door - showcases a selection of more complex, innovative dishes. Sunday lunch features a choice of three exceptional roast meats served with all the trimmings.

The Bear & Blacksmith has its own butchery based in East Allington supplying all the meat for the pub which is either reared on their own farm or sourced locally from other farms within a 10 mile radius. We are able to supply all meats including burgers, sausages, steaks, bacon and homemade pasties to the general public at very competitive prices. Please call the pub on 01548 581171 to discuss your requirements and place an order.

The pub hosts a variety of special events throughout the year and cater for outside events including weddings. See website for more details.

What a lovely evening meal with my family to celebrate my birthday. Enjoyed the breaded brie for started and a delicious fillet steak, which I requested to be cooked though due to being pregnant but was still so tender and cooked perfectly. Had the very tasty lemon tart for pudding and some of my party had the chocolate fondant which they also throughly enjoyed. The staff were absolutely lovely and very attentive. Will definitely be coming back for more wonderful meals. Thank you.

I'm not much of a drinker, so I've only come here to eat in the restaurant and its a really nice place.
Its one of the most modern pubs in the area with it being 'recently' renovated. Its still got the classic 'British Pub' feel but it looks more 21st century.
Its not the largest building, so if the pub is busy, it can get pretty crowded and a little noisy, but it does have an outside area/garden for the nicer days.
The food is very good - Its reasonably priced, tasty and generous portions. The staff and owners here are also very welcoming.

Delicious food, mostly locally sourced. Had a delicious lobster dinner, fully prepared, with none of the hassle of having to do it yourself. Excellent choice of deserts too. Choice of open air eating or inside.

We have just enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch here. We had lamb and beef which was superbly cooked together with wonderful fresh vegetables.

The service was very much with a smile, all the staff were really friendly and extremely efficient.

We can't wait to return when next in the area.

We walked here from Frogmore. Starters of king prawn, lime and chilli were best ever king prawn starter. Main fish plate with samphire and new potatoes was great but a bit wetter than expected... we ordered extra bread to mop up. Dessert of almond sponge with apricot and clotted cream was heavenly. Washed down with pink fizz!then the walk back.. wish people would drive slower so walking was less hazardous!
