The pub dates back more than 300 years, during which in its history the pub has been a Victorian hotel and a smugglers inn used to 'store the booty' from the various shipwrecks around the coast then in the 50s being converted slightly into a local petrol station when cars started appearing in the village.
Peter, Lesley & Joss took the pub over around 20 years ago. Before the pub, Peter Webber was in the music industry, he started up one of the very first music studios and equipment hire company in the UK called Peter Webber Hire Ritz Studios in East Putney, London which has accommodated everyone from The Stranglers, Blur, The Clash, Led Zeppelin and Duran Duran to Take That, Kylie, Amy Winehouse, Mary J Blige and Annie Lennox to name a few.
