Salcombe Yacht Club

With over 1200 members SYC is one of the most premier and active Sailing Clubs in the South West. Our Sailing Programme runs from the beginning of March to the end of December each year. 

We have six regular Club Series throughout the year and nine Open Meetings. It is said that Merlin Rocket Week is the jewel in the Yacht Clubs crown, attracting 120 teams from across the country and placing the town at the centre of the sailing worlds attentions for one week in July. 

The Town Regatta and Salcombe Yacht Club Regattas are hugely popular and are the highlights of the Salcombe Calendar year.

The Cruiser section of the Club has flourished in the last ten years in particular. With Rallies to favourite west country destinations as well as passages in company across the Channel. There is regular Cruiser Racing in the Range on a Sunday and a weekend Regatta in the Autumn.

We have two Cadet sessions each week, Cadet Racing programmes with pathways to excellence leading to some Cadets competing in the Regional and National RYA Zone Squads. 

A Ladies that Launch weekly morning session has enabled many sailors to get afloat and gain confidence in the quiet of the midweek estuary.  

We also have a competitive midweek evening race series during the Spring/Summer months with a social 'Sailors Bowl' supper afterwards in the Clubhouse. 

Adapting to suit our members needs has been key in trying to help more people sail and enjoy being on the estuary.

SYC is a thriving RYA training centre. Not only on the water sailing stages, but powerboat and safety boat instruction. Together with the RYA, First Aid and shore-based Coastal Navigation courses are run in our beautiful SYC Chart Room.  

And of course, SYC has a very active calendar with a beautiful bar overlooking the Salcombe Estuary serving the cheapest pint in town! We have regular themed suppers, rambles, talks and pop-ups along with a very inviting menu available from Sandwiches to Steak & Chips!
