As with most of the South Hams beaches this is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The North Sands beach is an easy level walk from Salcombe town along Cliff Road (about 15minutes). Stunning views of the Salcombe Estuary, Sunny Cove on the East Portlemouth side and out to sea past Wolf Rock.
A large sandy beach which is almost submerged at high tide so do check your time table.
Great swimming in a safe bay and good rock pools at low tide to play in.
A further walk you come across South Sands, where you can get a ride back to Salcombe on the South Sands passenger ferry. However if you are feeling adventurous then continue walking along the cliff path to Bolt Head via Sharpitor.

It's a fact !
The castle was built during Henry VIII's reign to defend the Estuary from French and Spanish pirates. It was eventually "slighted" (ruined) on the orders of Parliament following the Civil War.
