South Sands Beach
South Sands is actually part of a cove so you’re really sheltered from the sea winds and it is often an amazing little sun trap if you just want relax and sunbathe. Locals often use the expression 'Sunny Salcombe' that's because the Devon climate is almost Mediterranean and golden sandy beaches like this, with crystal clear waters, are perfect for family seaside holidays.
Safe sea swimming and popular for all sorts of water sports from kayaks, canoes, dinghy sailing, scuba diving and snorkelling. Hire facilities are in the lovely old Lifeboat Station.
We advise, as parking is limited, to make a day of it and use the South Sands Ferry. Covered in bunting and deliciously multi-coloured this will transport to and from central Salcombe.
Alternatively you can continue your journey up to Bolt Head via Sharpitor or walk back to North Sands, along Cliff Road beside the Salcombe Estuary. Either on a beautiful Summer Day or the depths of winter the views are stunning and not to be missed.
